1992 Alumni Mike Callahan, who recently took over as Men's Head Coach at the University of Washington, capped a stellar season by sweeping the Men's Eight's at the IRA National Championships. The Huskies won the Men's Varisty, 2V and Freshman Eights. This is an impressive accomplishment in his 2nd year at the helm.
2006 W-L Crew Alumni Nora Phillips helps UVA to a strong finish at the NCAA Championships. Nora was recently moved to the V8 where she sat 2 seat. This season UVA finished 2nd 0.37 seconds behind Stanford in the V8 at the NCAA championship and 4th over all as a team(8th top four finish in the 13 year history of the championship).
The 2009 season has come to end. The season was marked by one of the strongest finishes for the team as a whole. 5-6 boats taken to the VSRC made finals with the Women's 3rd Eight placing the highest at 2nd. The Men's V8 placed 5th .3 seconds behind McLean HS.
We took 6 eights to The Stotesbury Cup Regatta. The highlight was the Women's Jr. Eight which qualified for semi-finals. It was a heart breaker for a few of our boats which didn't qualify for semi-finals by fractions of seconds.
The final race of the season was SRAA Nationals where we took up a Men's and Women's Jr. Eight, Women's Jr. Four and our Women's Freshman Eight which qualified by placing 3rd at the Ted Phoenix Regatta on May 2nd, where our Men's 4th Eight also did well finishing 2nd to Thomas Jefferson. No boats advanced out of the heats.
2005 W-L Crew Alumni Cepand Alizadeh and current member of the University of Virginia Crew has been invited to the USRowing 2009 U23 Lightweight National Team Camps. As a member of W-L Crew Cepand helped the W-L Lightweight Eight win Stotesbury in 2004 and SRAA Nationals in 2005.

Keith Grest and the 2009 Captains
The current members and coaches of the W-L Crew were honored to have a very special guest on Monday. Keith Grest the team manager from 1949-1951 stopped by practice. Unfortunately the weather kept us off the water so the visit wasn't complete but the kids and coaches were still very happy to get a chance to meet and talk with a very important member of the W-L Crew family.
The Walter Mess Regatta schedule has been posted.

Since the starting temperature on Saturday(Jan. 17th) was near 8 degrees our usual 2 mile run after the 4k erg was changed to 5 laps within the school which included a trip up the stairs to the 4th floor and back down each lap. We had athletes from W-L, Yorktown and West Springfield this year attending. Even with the modification in routine it was a great even and all the athletes battled hard.

Due to large amounts of debris on Saturday the VA States regatta was delayed 1 hour. The story after that was the Men's 3rd Eight that placed 3rd, only crew to medal. The Men's and Women's V8s battled hard but came up short of the finals. They both did make the Petite finals, the women's eight pushed through long time rivals Yorktown to take 2nd in the heat to advance. The Men's V8 finished the local regatta season by winning the Petite Final. The Men's and Women's 2nd Eights did not advance to the finals. Full results can be found here.
